The Delaney Co, LLC, publisher of The Homesteader - York County & Lancaster County Edition, has
openings for two sales professionals.
We are a family-run, community-focused publication dedicated to helping new homeowners in York
County & Lancaster County, South Carolina settle in to their new communities. These positions offer a
flexible schedule in a relaxed work environment. We are looking for people who are (1) Good at
managing their own time, (2) Excited about introducing the publication to local businesses AND
about contributing to the local community, (4) Friendly and committed to great customer service, (3)
Thrive in a non-traditional work environment, and (4) Enjoy a challenge!
As a relatively new edition in the York County & Lancaster County, South Carolina, area with no direct
competition, the opportunity for income is great. Sales Associates earn a 20% base commission, with
a special 35% commission rate on the first month of new 6 month advertising commitments and a
50% commission on the first month of new 12 month advertising commitments. We also have a sales
bonus / incentive package which is based on performance.
As long as an account stays active and you choose to continue as a contract sales associate, your
residual commission continues. Other Homesteader publications around the country report that their
full- time sales people typically earn 45k - 65k their first year and 55k - 75k their second year.
Part-time sales associates can expect 15k - 30k per year.
Selling advertisement for The Homesteader is a simple three-step sales process:

A sales person who chooses to work full time should be able to visit 10-15 businesses per week and
close 20% - 30% of the businesses seen, on average.
Previous sales experience is helpful, but not required. During "normal business hours"
(Monday - Friday; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm), you should have at least 30 hours available if planning to
work full- time, and 15 hours available if planning to work part-time. The most important
quality is someone who is dedicated and excited about The Homesteader and the role it can
play in helping a business grow. You must be able to work independently. Close
supervision should not be expected.
All sales associates are contract employees under the IRS "statutory non - employee" provision
covering direct sales. Contractors are responsible for keeping their own schedule, maintaining
records, paying their own taxes and doing their own withholding. You will be issued a 1099 at the end
of the year.
A valid driver's license and personal transportation are required. A business phone or cell
phone is also needed. Contractors will be provided with business cards and brochures / marketing
materials but are responsible for all other expenses.
